We will adopt a strategic roadmap for NDDC, New MD declares

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mr. Nsima Ekere, has stated the commitment of the Governing Board and Management to fashion a new path for the sustainable development of the Niger Delta region. Mr. Ekere was speaking as the new Board, led by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, took over the reins of the interventionist agency at the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt on Monday . He said the new NDDC will operate a 4-R Initiative, as a strategic roadmap for development, adding that “this would involve restructuring the balance sheet, reforming the governance protocols, restoring the Commission’s core mandate and reaffirming its commitment to doing what was right and proper.” The NDDC boss reaffirmed the need for cooperation in the Niger Delta, stating: “We will work to promote cooperation, collaboration and synergy among stakeholders, such as state and local governments, oil and gas companies, donor agencies, civil society

Some leaders in the Niger Delta region have presented a 16-point demands to President Muhammadu Buhari, over what they described as way forward in the oil-rich region. The demands presented was headed by King Alfred Diette Spiff, accompanied by Edwin Clark and former governor, Victor Attah other stakeholders from the region. Top on the list of  demands is the relocation of the administrative and operational headquarters of major International Oil Companies (IOCs) to the Niger Delta region. The leaders say the decision would fast-track the development of the region. The region’s leaders, under the aegis of Pan Niger Delta Forum, also demanded the clean-up of other communities affected by spill, besides Ogoniland. They also asked for a review of the amnesty programme’s core mandate of providing a robust exit strategy, to ensure that those trained have jobs to return to or are given stipends. POLICE PRESS RELEASE RESCUE OF FOURTEEN (14) OIL WORKERS The Commissioner of Police Rivers State Police Command, CP Francis M. Odesanya in keeping with his pledge to fight all manners of crime and criminality in the state, which pledge is already yielding fruitful result, has again smashed the gang of kidnappers responsible for the abduction of fourteen (14) Oil Workers on the 2 nd  day of September 2016. 2.      The Oil Workers were rescued unhurt due largely to the efforts of the Command’s Tactical Units, who, at the early hours of today 18/9/2016, engaged the hoodlums, in a fierce gun battle which lasted for one and half hours, leading to the rescue of the victims, the hoodlums took to flight abandoning their hostages. Efforts are on to arrest and bring them to justice. 3.      The last of the hostages, seven in number were rescued unhurt bringing the total number to fourteen (14). However, no ransom was paid. They have been debriefed and are receiving medical attention
