NDDC COMPLETES PAYMENT OF ANOTHER BATCH OF WATER HYACINTH CONTRACTS

News Pointers has learnt that the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC has kept to it's promise on delivering good governance in the Niger Delta region.

According to a release made available to news men by Priestly Nna, Special Assistance on media and Communications to Oyirinda Amadi Acting EDFA.

▪Reassures on prompt payment of consultants and contractors.

The Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, under the Ag. MD, Prof. Nelson Braimbraifa, has completed another round of payment of Water Hyacinth contracts to contractors across the  Niger Delta region as part of its commitment to improve on the environmental condition of  the region in line with best practices.

This revelation was made by the Acting Executive Director Finance and Administration, EDFA, Chris Oyirinda Amadi, on Thursday at the Commission's Headquarters in Port Harcourt, after a Board meeting with the Minister of Niger Delta, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani.

Speaking to pressmen, the Acting EDFA said the management of the Commission was determined to satisfy the primary essence  for which it was set up and drive a strategic development plan that will facilitate infrastructural development and boost economic growth in the region.

"As you all know, the Prof. Nelson Braimbraifa-led management team of the NDDC is  committed to providing an enabling environment and relationship with contractors that will foster development and growth in all spheres in the region.

"On assumption of office, we immediately swung into action to pay contractors owed below N20 million Naira without the usual and unnecessary bureaucratic encumbrances. We have also completed payment of Water Hyacinth contracts. By next week, we will commence payment to contractors owed between 20 to 30 Million Naira."

Speaking further, Mr. Amadi hinted that the Management was working hard to ensure that projects were completed on time and in line with project specifications, "The Ag. MD has commenced inspection of some project sites and we have received commitment from some of our major contractors that they will soon complete some projects they are handling", he said.

The Ag. EDFA further revealed that the Ag. MD and other members of the Management team has frowned grievously at the issue of 10% being requested from contractors in other to facilitate their payments, stating that one of the major drives of the new NDDC Board is to ensure that contractors not only get their money promptly but also from the comfort of their homes without any public relations approach. He added that serious measures have been outlined by the Management to check the nuisance.

The Executive Director  thanked the Minister for visiting the Commission to assess the performance of the new Board while assuring him that the management will invite him soon to commission some projects completed by the Commission."##
