PLANNED REVOCATION OF THE CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY OF NOVOTEL HOTEL ALONG STADIUM ROAD, PORT HARCOURT; A RECKLESS ABUSE OF POWER

PLANNED REVOCATION OF THE CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY OF NOVOTEL HOTEL ALONG STADIUM ROAD, PORT HARCOURT;
A RECKLESS ABUSE OF POWER

By comrade Barango-Tariah, Hope

The governor of Rivers state, chief Barr. NEW has once again made an insidious and uninformed statement  while in church service yesterday. The statement which quoted the governor to have ordered the revocation of the C of O of a world class hotel like NOVOTEL is highly regrettable and practically condemnable because the statement is coming from the governor of a state that is in dare need of investors.

Taking a careful, close and conscious look at the streets of port Harcourt will inform residents that the regularly tormenting and frustrating hold ups (go slow) are gradually on the decline without TIMARIV, traffic wardens now relax for more hours on their duty stands because the traffic on our roads are not what they used to be.

The reason for this development is as a result of the daily eloping of investors from the state whose daily activities are capable of causing traffic jams. Credible information source revealed that the reason for the yet uneasy decision by the investors to elope is not unconnected with the ever increasing state of insecurity, multiple taxation, unfriendly parley with the government, unguaranteed state of business security such as this, where the governor revokes C of Os of business premises at will without any cogent and verifiable reason.

Again, the statement is insensitive and unproductive, coming from a state where unemployment and criminally is on the increase and NOVOTEL hotel has over 2,000 direct and indirect employment on it's payroll. It is particularly nauseating that the statement oozed out from a government that has not employed a single soul after 26 months of taking over power in Rivers state.

This is a pointer that the government has long parted ways with development of the state and has chosen to politic with every thing, otherwise, when has NOVOTEL hotel became an election venue
Or
the mere fact that APC electoral officials sent from Abuja patronised NOVOTEL hotel to spend a night or two has made it an election venue or APC secretariat?
Or
This could also be regarded as one of the series of the weekly drama acted by the present administration since inception, in line with the government promise to comically entertain Rivers people weekly.
Recall, there is hardly any week past without one form of drama acting or the other by the present administration in Rivers state.

I hereby call on the governor to redirect his energy towards his campaign promises and jettison this sort of petty politics of vendetta.

I also call on hotel owners association nation wide to speak up for justice in rescue of one of their own from this unwarranted oppression, intimidation and victimisation to avert future occurrence because,
"injury to one is injury to all."##

The rider of the bike immediately pulled his riffle but on realizing that the man he had hit was the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, he retreated. The Minister left but unknown to him, some cars that were part of his convoy were blocked and occupants harassed thereafter by Governor Wike who personally went from one car to the other ordering occupants to step out and subjecting them to some level of humiliation.
