Vickoria Wobo Nyeche kicks against Wike's obvious illegality

Drama, as Hon. Victoria Wobo Nyeche(APC), member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, representing Port Harcourt Constituency 1, staged a walkout of the Assembly Chamber because she would not like to be associated with obvious illegality.

When asked why she walked out, she said that they were billed to sit yesterday but only 7 in a 32-member House showed up for the sitting and as a responsible lawmaker and representative, she had to raise a point of order, pointing out that 7 out of 32 members couldn't constitute 1/3 for quorum but was ruled out of order by the Speaker. This act of illegality, she said, necessitated her to walking out of the Chamber.

The Speaker, Ikunyi Ibani ruled Hon. Victoria Nyeche out of order, stating that in the Attendance Register before him, 11 members signed and are deemed to be present for the sitting and as such the sitting should go on and indeed the sitting commenced even after the Majority Leader, Martins Amaewhule, contradicted the Speaker's claim of only having 11 members signatures in the Attendance Register. Hon. Amaewhule claimed that the 11 persons were physically present before the commencement of the purported sitting.

"At that point I had to walk out of the Chamber as I didn't want to be identified as supporting obvious illegality because the House Rule is very clear on quorum, which is 1/3. In a House of 32 members, 11 members form the quorum for a sitting to be legal and legitimate. Whatever resolution that came out from the House yesterday after I left should be viewed as mere resolution arising from a meeting of friends not lawmakers making laws for our best interest," Hon. Nyeche said.

NDDC Reaffirms Support for People with Disabilities

NDDC Reaffirms Support for People with Disabilities The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has reaffirmed its commitment to providing the necessary support that will enable people living with disabilities to earn sustainable livelihoods. The NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Ibitoye Abosede, made the pledge while addressing members of Niger Delta Great Minds Foundation of People with Deformities, who disrupted vehicular traffic on Aba Road Port Harcourt when they besieged the entrance of the NDDC headquarters on Tuesday. The action of the Niger Delta Great Minds Foundation of People with Deformities, came barely three weeks after NDDC presented automated mobility and hearing aids to people living with disabilities in the region, through the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, JONAPWD, at the commission's headquarters in Port Harcourt. According to the President of the Niger Delta Great Minds Foundation of People with Deformities, Mr. Emotonye Aziki...

Man lauds Prof Brambaifa led NDDC board, calls for total support

A top public analyst, Inengite Jackson has lauded the acting managing director of Niger Delta Development Commission led by Prof. Nelson Brambaifa for their performance in the past five months in office. Here is his full write ups "ARISE BAYELSANS, LET OUR ENEMIES BE SCATTERED. This is a clarion call on Ijaw people, especially, all Bayelsans to speak in one voice irrespective of political affiliation. We have a reputation for pulling down our own just like a mother hen that eats her own eggs. That is not something good about a people.  Since NDDC was created, this is the second time a Bayelsan would be occupying the exalted position of Managing Director, even though on Acting capacity. Sadly and typical of us, the attempt to pull down the Prof. Nelson Brambaifa led board is coming from no other quarters than from fellow Bayelsans. May I ask, are we cursed to fight ourselves all the time even when other ethnic groups stand to benefit from such fights? In just 5 months s...
