Finally, Ogoni Clean-up gets new shape... As Amina unveil plans

The Minister for Environment Amina Mohammed has said the Ogoni clean-up is ongoing. Reacting to the clean-up exercise that was flagged by President Mohammadu Buhari, she noted that all resources have been made available and the money has been released. Mrs Mohammed, added that they needed the structure to be  in place so that the money will go into the ground where people will feel the impact. She further stressed that its important  to put together structure and make sure that they have a solid foundation.
According to her, “talking about Ogoni spill, all resources have been made available and the money has been released. But if you do not have structure in place the money will go into the ground and people will not feel the impact. It is important for us to put together structure and make sure that we have a solid foundation. Who is in the office, who is the budget manager and how are they recruiting? All of these were not taken care of in the past. But this time, we believe that by the time we leave, people will see result. It will be a continuing process and in the next few months people will be seeing some of the issues that they had not seen.” . The minister made this speech yesterday at the 10th anniversary of NOSDRA in Abuja.

Trusting Maritime, Nigeria Eyes Major Economic Growth in 2023 – SGF Mustapha

Taking the maritime sector as economic anchor, the Federal Government says it is targeting placing Nigeria among the first 70 countries in the World Bank Ease of Doing Business index, a most sought-after economic feat globally, by 2023. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, stated this Saturday night in Lagos at the third edition of the annual Corporate Dinner and Merit Awards organised by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). That projection came as Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, said the transportation sector was being developed as a strategic driver of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s economic diversification and growth agenda. Amaechi said the government was focused on the establishment of a strong intermodal transport system that would facilitate seamless movement of goods and people and drastically reduce the cost of transportation and business, generally. "... 2023 Presidency must swing South is a wise arrangement that must be left sacrosanct" -Fola Ojo

Wrote Fola Ojo IF Nigeria were a society where ethnic bigotry and tribal dogmatism do not cheaply overrun and almost eviscerate commonsensical rational thinking and open-mindedness, the discussion about what region or geopolitical zone the next president should come from in 2023 wouldn’t have attracted my flimsiest attention. If mutual distrust and bruised co-existential relationship sincerely do not exist among Nigerians positioned high or low, who becomes the presidential charge-d’affaires should have been freely weighed strictly around a candidate’s competence and savviness to govern and administer free and easy without a hamper from invisible shackles that come with governance. If top political portfolios in the country and high-ranking seats in juicy offices like the NNPC, Customs , and the likes were dished out based exclusively on pedigreed credentials, and not the village aspirers for those positions  come from, I wouldn’t have chosen to join in the debate about whether the...
