Ondo election: PDP can’t question choice of Returning Officer – INEC November 25, 2016

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reacted to the opposition by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to its choice of Chief Returning Officer for Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo.

PDP in Ondo state on Friday claimed it has reliable information that plans are being made to manipulate and rig the poll.

PDP said Professor Kayode Soremekun, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, who served as Chief Returning Officer in Edo State was recruited to serve in same capacity in Ondo to “use the same template that compromised Edo election”

But speaking on the allegation, Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, stated that the electoral officers deployed to Ondo have no tainted records.

According to him, “In our guideline, there is no limit the number of time someone can be used.

“The only thing we can look into if people come out with evidence that the man compromised.

“You can’t question our choice of returning officer. That is our own internal affairs”.
