CONTROVERSIES OVER MARITIME UNIVERSITY

CONTROVERSIS OVER MARITIME UNIVERSITY The attention of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has been drawn to speculations in a section of the media and a Press Statement from the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) to the effect that the Agency is opposed to the establishment of the Maritime University at Okerenkoko, in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State. This assertion is far from the truth and it has become necessary to clarify the issue as the Federal Government is committed to the actualization of the project which the Agency conceived. It is pertinent to note that NIMASA is supporting every aspect of the law in its determination to fulfill its obligations. In addition, the National Assembly recently held a public hearing on the matter and it is expected that the funding of the institution and other aspects of running it will be specified in the Act setting up the University. For the avoidance of doubt, at no time did the Director General, Dr. D

NDDC Fault Claims By New Militant Groups

PRESS STATEMENT The attention of the Niger Delta Development Commission has been drawn to the report, headlined, “Another Niger Delta Militant Group Announces Resumption of Hostilities,” carried in the Vanguard edition of Tuesday, January 10, 2017, in which some unsubstantiated and unverifiable claims were made concerning the Commission. We wish to state categorically, and without reservations, that there is no iota of truth in the allegation by the group, The Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, NDRC, “that N80 billion which was supposed to be used in developing the Niger Delta was used to prosecute the election of a former South-South governor, while N40 billion was also withdrawn from the NDDC coffers to prosecute the last re-run election in Rivers State.” The Commission’s new Management and Governing Board have only just assumed duties and have neither awarded projects yet nor undertaken any transactions of such magnitude. These facts are verifiable. It is, indeed, very importan

Flash: Abe set to slam PDP at tribunal

Flash: Abe set to slam PDP at tribunal The Media Committee of Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, has stated that the Rivers State Chapter of Peoples Democratic (PDP) has nothing to say on the victory of Senator Abe. In a press statement issued in reaction to a statement by the PDP entitled, “PDP Heads to the Tribunal against Abe's declaration as Senator”, the committee said election petition tribunals are part of democratic process in Nigeria and that there was nothing new about going to the tribunal. The committee said Senator Abe and the APC were set to meet the PDP at the tribunal to defend the sacred mandate given to Senator Abe by the People of Rivers South East. It said up till now that the PDP is unable to point out electoral irregularities committed by APC in Rivers South East rather they make sweeping statements of how security personnel helped APC to win. The committee said Senator Abe and the APC have evidence of eff

FULL TEXT OF APC INTERNAL CLASH REVEALED

F U LL TEXT OF APC INTERNAL CLASH REVEALED "RE: PLOT TO DIVIDE RIVERS APC: MR. DEREK MENE FINGERED PART 1( A CALL FOR CAUTION) I have read with amusement some of the articles making the rounds on the APC Whatsapp platforms and on Facebook, engineered by certain interests and promoted by some elements within the Greater Together New Media Team clearly targeted at me and those identified by the agents of darkness as supporters of Senator Magnus Abe. The purpose of the entire exercise is clearly to create a rift or the impression of a rift between  Senator Abe and his brother, friend and leader,  Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi the Minister of Transportation. Our party faithful will recall that sometimes ago, Senator Abe wrote an article titled "Jonathan vs Amaechi: In Whose Interest"  in which he argued that those who  love a leader genuinely will never be first to take a bell and ring to the world that his house is on fire even before they see smoke. Clearly it is ap

President Buhari gives Nigerians hope on 2017 economy

President Muhammadu Buhari’s New Year Message To Nigerians Channels Television. Updated December 31, 2016 My dear Compatriots, I am happy to welcome you to the beginning of a New Year in our beloved country Nigeria. I felicitate with you today at a time when our nation is witnessing a new and impressive turnaround in our security and socio-economic situation. I know you will join me to, once again, congratulate the heroic and gallant efforts of our military and other security agencies on their remarkable successes to rid the nation of terrorism. Following the successful capture of Sambisa Forest, spearheaded by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, we have entered a new phase in our battle against our common enemy, Boko Haram. When we see our beloved 21 Chibok girls reuniting with their families and community for Christmas, it gives us the hope that those who are still in captivity will one day return to the loving arms of family, friends and well-wishers. I urge all Nigerians to

Breaking! Wike on the run over leaked audio recordings

Wike on the run over leaked audio recordings The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, received with satisfaction the confirmation by Gov. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State that the telephone discussion clip between him and Gov Nyesom Wike published by Saharareporters is authentic. Gov Fayose’s only grouse is that it was allegedly recorded and leaked by the Department of State Services [DSS], an accusation he is yet to provide the evidence. The APC finds Gov. Fayose’s position very significant in several aspects. The most important significance of that admission is that even among criminals, some level of honour especially in telling some truth and owning up to the obvious are necessary. When the audio recordings of Gov. Wike’s conversations with his people on rigging the last December 10 rerun elections surfaced in public space, the governor rather than own up and raise other issues about the clips chose to discredit them even if they were as clear to the deaf and dumb as

APC blasts PDP chieftain for challenging Sen. Abe

APC blasts PDP chieftain for challenging Sen. Abe The Media Committee of Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, is appalled by the persistent insult to the people of Rivers South East by the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP),ascribing the sacred collective mandate given to Senator Abe in the December 10 re-run election as concocted. This does not augur well for the peace and unity of Rivers State after a long period of polity heating, instability and orgy of violence. The PDP and Gov. Nyesom Wike know sincerely in their heart that Senator Abe won the election. They knew that Senator Abe was on ground and that PDP was not. That was why they deployed every arsenal at their behest to malign Senator Abe. They should learn to accept defeat and respect the will of the people of the district, thereby deepening democracy in the state. It is pertinent to state that any attempt to deride the victory of Senator Abe and heap insult on his person will
