NIMASA 2017 Budget Targets 5 Areas – Dr Dakuku [Welcome to Newspointers, do like our page] The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Dakuku Peterside has disclosed that the Agency’s 2017 budget is tailored towards 5 strategic areas in the maritime sector. The DG who said this recently during the 2017 budget defence session at the National Assembly in Abuja before the Senate Committee on Marine Transport, Chaired by Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima stated that the Agency is committed to actualizing its core mandates and to grow the maritime sector for the benefit of indigenous operators and the entire nation. See what NDDC did to 11 directors [Welcome to Newspointers, do like our page] The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has redeployed 11 directors as part of its on-going reforms and restructuring to enhance overall performance, towards the sustainable development of the Niger Delta region. The redeployments, which were approved by the NDDC Managing Director, Mr Nsima Ekere, in line with the 4-R initiative of the current board and management and of the Commission, affected directors at the headquarters, as well as those in Abuja Liaison Office, Bayelsa, Imo, Ondo, Delta and Rivers State offices. “After the recently concluded retreat of the Commission, we are taking immediate steps and actions to reform our operations for optimum performance,” Mr. Ekere said, adding: “The first step is to ensure we deploy officers where they would offer better service, and that is what we have begun to do.” He said that this is the beginning of wide ranging reforms and restruc

Police Storms Kidnappers Handout The Rivers State Police Command in its onslaught against arm banditry in the State, has recorded a significant breakthrough as Operatives of the Anti – kidnapping unit, led by the Commander SP Edward Shadare at about 430pm, following a tip off/ call analysis of the kidnappers phone, demanding for ransom, the team tracked and traced them to their hideout at Choba, where on sighting the Police the hoodlums opened fire and were repelled at the end of which three of them were fatally wounded while two of our men sustained gunshot wounds. Following the shoot out, three kidnapped victims were rescued. CONTROVERSIS OVER MARITIME UNIVERSITY The attention of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has been drawn to speculations in a section of the media and a Press Statement from the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) to the effect that the Agency is opposed to the establishment of the Maritime University at Okerenkoko, in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State. This assertion is far from the truth and it has become necessary to clarify the issue as the Federal Government is committed to the actualization of the project which the Agency conceived. It is pertinent to note that NIMASA is supporting every aspect of the law in its determination to fulfill its obligations. In addition, the National Assembly recently held a public hearing on the matter and it is expected that the funding of the institution and other aspects of running it will be specified in the Act setting up the University.
