INEC will continue to conduct rerun in Rivers if...~ INEC boss

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will continue to conduct rerun in Rivers State if politicians fails to support the commission in creating a peaceful atmosphere.

Mr. Iniedi Ikoiwak Abasi, Resident Electoral Commissioner,  disclosed it recently during a consultative meeting with management and critical stakeholders at the Police Officers Mess,  in Rivers.
The commissioner in giving his reasons said, the major set back that had led to the suspension of election in some parts of the state during March 19th rerun election was as a result of some unlawful practices made by political gladiators who wanted to stay at home and ''cook'' up results.
In furthering his assertions, he said politicians in the previous elections were so comfortable in doing INEC's work for them just to create problems. He further averred that even when guidelines were given pertaining to where the racks will be kept, politicians were still at the rack arena night to election day.
Accordingly, the INEC boss dismissed claims made by electorate that its commission were involved in the distribution of  fake election materials during the previous rerun in some parts of the state. He said since the inception of the accusation,  nobody could prove him wrong by bringing what they term to be fake material as alleged.
In another development, Mr. Ikoiwak urged politicians to desist from statements and actions that could lead to rancour stressing, that those were some of the issues that had led to the state not to have any senator representing them currently at the national level.

ABES COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION PAYS FIRST CLASS DIVIDEND

ABE'S COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION PAYS FIRST CLASS DIVIDEND Over a century ago, Benjamin Franklin, a founding father of the United States of America said that "an investment in knowledge pays the best interest". That statement holds true today as when it was first uttered. The Most Distinguished Senator Magnus Abe was probably thinking about that statement when as Secretary to Rivers State Government under Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, he facilitated overseas scholarships for many Ogoni sons and daughters. Today, at a time when the present Rivers State Government under Chief Nyesom Wike is withdrawing the scholarships of thousands of Rivers students abroad and demanding their deportation back home, Mr Barididum Nwinka Taol from Barako in Gokana came to Magnus Abe's house with his parent and chiefs from his community to thank the Senator for facilitating his scholarship to study Marine Engineering in Amet University, India.
